Reflecting on Diversity, Intersectionality, and Belonging
While housing vulnerability can affect anybody, some people are more likely to experience housing precarity than others.
People working in homelessness, social housing, and housing justice are able to work more effectively, and supportively, if they understand how different experiences of identity and marginalisation can affect people’s experiences.
Reflecting on Diversity, Intersectionality, and Belonging supports learners to reflect deeply on the impacts of power, privilege, and diversity on choice, communication, and relationships. This course emphasises an awareness of self and others, and the development of supportive and accountable relationships.
This training session is suitable for frontline and leadership roles in homelessness and social housing, and for anyone who is interested in a developing a deeper understanding of housing/social justice issues.
At the end of this session, learners will be able to:
Understand how identity markers intersect to create unique experiences of privilege and marginalisation
Reflect critically on their own identities, and how these shape their perspectives, biases, and power
Recognise how dominant narratives can erase or oversimplify the characteristics of people who experience marginalisation/s
This training session is 4.5 hours.
Delivery consists of a facilitator led training package via an online platform or face-to-face delivery.
This training session is interactive with an emphasis on activities that promote self-reflection and proactive implementation.
